Early Years

We believe that every child is unique.

Characteristics of Effective Learning

Playing and exploring: Children investigate, experience things and ‘have a go’. Children who actively participate in their own play develop a larger store of

information and experiences to draw on which positively supports their learning

Active learning: Children concentrate and keep on trying if they encounter difficulties. They are proud of their own achievements. For children to develop into

self-regulating, lifelong learners they are required to take ownership, accept challenges and learn persistence.

Creating and thinking critically: Children develop their own ideas and make links between these ideas. They think flexibly and rationally, drawing on previous

experiences which help them to solve problems and reach conclusions.

Unique Child: Every child is unique and has the potential to be resilient, capable, confident and self-assured.

Positive Relationships: Children flourish with warm, strong and positive partnerships between all staff and parents/carers. This promotes independence across

the EYFS curriculum. Children and practitioners are not alone and embrace each community.

Enabling environments: Children learn and develop well in safe and secure environments where routines are established and where adults respond to their

individual needs and passions and help them to build upon their learning over time.

Learning and Development: Children develop and learn at different rates.  We must be aware of children who need greater support than others.

At Upton Primary School we follow our school motto of ‘Success for all.’ Our vision in Early Years is for our children to be

inquisitive, independent, respectful, adventurous, curious, confident and resilient.   We aim to provide an enabling

environment where children learn through play and are challenged, stimulated and engaged.  We are

committed to providing positive relationships where children are a valuable member of the team and community

We encourage all children to cooperate and share and to have the confidence to make choices and decisions for

themselves.

In our Early Years Foundation Stage our personalised and tailored curriculum provides all children with the knowledge,

skills and understanding they need to be confident, inquisitive, curious, independent learners. We believe that providing an

education that does all of this gives children the best chance to become well-rounded, happy individuals, ready to

succeed in an ever-changing world.

OUTDOOR AREA

In Early Years we provide our children the opportunity to learn outdoors every day. We aim to provide our children with an active education where they can develop independence, mental strength, creativity and problem-solving skills. The use of natural materials and open-ended nature of the outdoors encourages children’s confidence and imagination through active-learning. We want our children to explore nature, engage in their surroundings and enjoy their learning.
